Illinois’ Moline and Iowa’s Davenport -- part of the Mississippi River’s Quad Cities, also embracing Illinois’ Rock Island and Iowa’s Bettendorf -- brim with dining options for assorted fare, casual to gourmet. Downtown Moline, now dubbed Moline Centre, has upgraded with new sidewalks, decorative lighting, and benches to embellish the stroll to assorted eateries from Bad Boy’s Pizza to Dead Poet’s Espresso. In between at Moline Centre are Froehlich’s Cakes & Pastries, Cup-A-Jo, Jack’s Place Restaurant & Pub, and Lagomarcino’s Confectionary, home of the Whooper Dooper, Tin Roof, and a family-held secret hot fudge recipe for sundaes that are simply supreme. Grills, with and without an "e," are big downtown, too, with Bier Stube Bar & Grill, Packy’s Bar & Grille, QC Zone Sports Bar & Grill and the River House Bar & Grille. Ethnic eateries include Thongsy’s Thai, Le Mekong for Vietnamese fare, and La Flama for Mexican delight. Downtown Davenport also has its share of places to chow down and drink up, starting with Boozie’s Bar & Grill and moving on to Mac’s Tavern, Don’s Big 10 Sports Bar & Grill, Front Street Brewery, Carriage Haus, The Starting Line, and the Dam View Inn on Second Street. Davenport restaurants range from Downtown Deli to Centro (an urban Italian eatery with New York-style pizza) to Antonella’s Trattoria Ristorante, Monica’s Country Café, M.J. Chinese Buffet and Savitri’s Fine Dining, the latter in a circa 1904 building with exposed brick and original tin relief ceiling enhancing wood and stone set flooring. Quad City chains range from Applebee’s and Denny’s to Quizno’s and Subway.
